Music

The music curriculum is carried out in the seventh through tenth grades. It begins with the study of music fundamentals, applied to learning the recorder as a solo instrument in grade seven and as part of an ensemble in grade eight. In grades nine and ten, students focus on vocal technique and choral performance.

Boys' Barbershop Choir

Specializing in a capella harmony, the Barbershop Choir is an all-male chorus that sings in the traditional Barbershop format. There is tremendous interest in this group, which results in a large membership and excellence in singing quality. The repertoire is drawn from classic barbershop, show tunes and jazz.

Chamber Choir

This choir, for serious and skilled singers, has a well-balanced, mature and high-level choral sound. They have shared performances with the Notre Dame Chorale at the Debartolo Performing Arts Center at Notre Dame and have traveled to Minnesota several times for a concert performance in collaboration with the River Ridge campus. The Chamber Choir is open by audition only.

Girls' Ensemble

This choir is open to girls in grades seven through twelve by audition. Formerly devoted strictly to a cappella madrigal singing, it is currently expanding its repertoire to include more styles of music, including jazz and other 20th-century compositions. The group has participated in the Indiana State School Music Association contest twice, and received a first-place rating both times.
